When we first met this client he had two goals with the project: to block the sights and sounds of a large air conditioner near his front door, and to enhance his home's curb appeal with a striking new fence.  After showing us a few photos of other fences he and his wife liked, we agreed on this all-cedar design featuring horizontal boards of alternating width.  It was our first fence of the season, and thankfully the soil was remarkably forgiving for Calgary in April!
